It’s been a historic week for the Toronto Wolfpack which saw the eighteen trialists touch down in the U.K. for their week-long training camp in the hope of earning themselves a place on the Wolfpack’s First Team.
It gave the coaches an in-depth look at how they would handle the day-to-day intensity of being a full-time rugby league player and if they could adapt and learn the same techniques and structures we teach to our First Team.
With that in mind, it was pleasing to see how well our First Team and the eighteen trialists integrated with each other. You could see a real bond between both groups, with a genuine sense of respect among everybody and plenty of good humour thrown in as well!
I think FuiFui and Monty have developed some type of man crush as neither one would leave each other alone throughout the week.
FuiFui was desperate for the trialists to join the First Team in training, so we arranged a game of touch rugby before one of the sessions that saw the trialists take the win with a one try to nil victory.
All eighteen trialists boys should be immensely proud of how well they did during the week, not only for themselves but also for their families and the country’s they represent. As coaches, we couldn’t have asked any more from them. They were all a privilege to coach, and they finished their week with a very hard fought victory over the Brighouse Rangers that was only secured in the closing moments of the match, with a try from Nathan Campbell.
We would like to congratulate Nathan Campbell, Joe Eichner and Quinn Ngawati on earning themselves contracts with the Wolfpack. The entire coaching staff is looking forward to working with them as we continue on to our very first season!
