So the road to promotion starts this Sunday against the form York City Knights. Now, after our successful League campaign we have seven games to come out on top to ensure we gain promotion to the Championship.
The York game immediately puts us up against another team who believe, and rightly so, that they will be in the mix for promotion at the end of the Super 8’s. You can disregard the result last time we clashed as the Super 8’s is effectively playoff Rugby, and every game will be played as if its a Final.
The boys have had a few days rest before this weeks training, more so to recharge them mentally, as it’s been a long season and we want them coming into the next block as fresh as they can be. The lads have worked tremendously hard throughout the season and we coaches ask a lot from them.
In terms of training we haven’t done to much differently than we do most weeks, even though the intensity in games will without a doubt rise in the Super 8’s. Our boys are pretty chilled and nothing seems to phase them. However, we’ve definitely seen a sharpness in their skill levels since we started our season.
We now have three games in the UK against York, Workington and Keighley before we return back home to Toronto for our final four games of the Super 8’s. It feels strange to say we are returning home to Toronto when we are based in the UK, but thats the feeling I and the rest of the coaching staff and players have as the support we have been given from the Toronto public has been phenomenal.
We all look forward to the continued support whilst we’re back in the UK and we will see you again soon at Lamport!
