Toronto Wolfpack’s Rugby League Championship Round 12 match against Halifax RLFC will be held at New River Stadium in London, UK. The Wolfpack home game was listed as ‘venue TBC’ on the original fixture list and the club have since been working closely with the RFL to finalize a venue. The Wolfpack would like to thank Halifax RLFC Chairman Mark Moore and Head Coach Richard Marshall for their support during this time.
The game against Halifax will take place at the home of League 1 side London Skolars, the ground that hosted the Wolfpack’s first ever league match in March 2017. New River Stadium is in North London and is served by excellent tube and rail links. The fixture will be played on Saturday 28th April, with the kick off time confirmed in due course.
Wolfpack General Manager – Commercial, Scott Lidbury said:
“We have an incredibly loyal fanbase here in Toronto, who supported the team passionately during our inaugural season, and this move has not been taken lightly.
“That said, this fixture gives us the opportunity to further raise the profile of the Wolfpack brand, which is rapidly gaining prominence on both sides of the Atlantic, and to fly our flag in London.
“We will be engaging with a range of sponsors and community partners to create a Canada themed Fanzone alongside a Try Tag Rugby Tournament at what we expect to be a sell out event.
“Our aim is to create a Festival of Rugby in London, which appeals to rugby fans of all ages, and supports our long term vision that the world is a better place with more rugby balls in kids hands.”
Wolfpack Head Coach Paul Rowley added:
“London has a strong Canadian expat community and we would like to reach out to them. I know when we played London previously we had a significant following and outnumbered the London Skolars support base.”
In light of Wolfpack Season Ticket packages now having one less game supporters who have already signed up for the 2018 season will be compensated.
“I know there are plans in place to give our Season Ticket holders free tickets for another game in Toronto, so they can bring along friends and family” Rowley added.
The match between Toronto Wolfpack and Halifax RLFC is one of three regular season Wolfpack matches in the UK that will have an “Official Supporter Trip” in 2018. Trips will be organized by major partner Air Transat with full details confirmed next week.
