Toronto Wolfpack continue to add to their forward stocks with Castleford Tigers powerhouse prop Gadwin Springer just one of six new signings announced by the club this week in a bid to make the Wolfpack bigger, better and stronger in 2019.
Springer is a man mountain of a forward and cuts an intimidating figure on the field, adding genuine size and explosiveness to the Pack’s ranks. Toronto Wolfpack Director of Rugby, Brian Noble, commented:
“When Gadwin first came onto the Super League scene, his strong running game and raw power was there for all to see. We know our Canadian fans will enjoy seeing Gadwin at Lamport Stadium punching holes through defensive lines as well as welcoming the Wolfpack’s first French player.”
Originally born in French Guiana, on the north Atlantic coast of South America, the 25-year-old played his junior rugby for Toulouse Olympique before making his Super League debut for Catalans Dragons in 2014. Following a short stint in Perpignan, Springer signed for Castleford where he has spent the last four seasons, compiling over 50 appearances. Now, he will make the move to Toronto, where he will play an important role as the team aims for promotion to the Super League while growing the game across North America.
Springer is known for his robust carries and punishing hits in defence and will be sure to add some impact in the middle third of the field for Toronto. As the first French international to sign for the Wolfpack, Springer will fly the flag for expansion in Rugby League on two fronts. He said:
“I’m delighted to be joining Toronto Wolfpack next season. I heard a lot of good things about the club and I’m really excited about the opportunity ahead. I cannot wait to join the boys in preseason. I’d also like to thanks the Castleford Tigers supporters for their never-failing support and with all the best to my former teammates.
“I’m hoping I can bring my strong running game to the Wolfpack. I like to carry the ball strong and be really aggressive in defence so I’m looking forward to bringing these attributes to the team. I’m most excited about playing in front of the fans and experiencing the atmosphere at Lamport Stadium, though.”
