2019 is Gary Wheeler’s third year with Toronto Wolfpack after the talented outside back became one of the original players to sign for the club ahead of the 2017 campaign.
The versatility of Wheeler allows him to comfortably play at stand off, in the centres or on the wing and he was a quality pick up for the Wolfpack from Super League side Warrington Wolves.
Prior to leaving the Wire, the 28 year old played for seven seasons in Super League with St Helens, after graduating through the club’s academy system in 2008.
Wheeler was able to display his talent on the field at Saints, but the early years of his career were marred by injury, restricting him to just 65 appearances in the Red V.
Although not without his injury problems since joining the Wolfpack, the 2018 season was a strong one for Wheeler, who returned to fitness mid-way through the year to add some real strike to Toronto’s left edge and played a significant part in pushing the club to the brink of Super League promotion.
With a strong and smooth pre-season under his belt, the former Saints junior is looking to add a new level of consistency to his game in 2019 and help the club go one better than their achievements in 2018.
