How It Stands: Championship Playoffs Round 2
Week One of the 2019 Betfred Championship Playoff Series is in the books and the remaining four teams now turn their attention to upcoming Semi-Finals as they bid to keep their hopes of promotion to the Super League alive.
Toronto Wolfpack v Toulouse Olympique
1.30pm ET Sunday September 22, Lamport Stadium
For Toronto Wolfpack, this means a showdown on Sunday September 22 with the red-hot Toulouse Olympique after the French side triumphed over York City Knights in their Quarter-Final. The victory was Toulouse’s eighth in succession and puts them into a Semi-Final against the Wolfpack that promises the winner a direct path into the all-or-nothing Playoff Final on October 5.
The match will kick-off at 1.30pm ET at Lamport Stadium and while success will mean a bye week to prepare for the prestigious final fixture of the season, a loss will not signal the end of 2019. Instead, the loser will face off the following week in a Preliminary Final against the winning team in this weekend’s other clash.
York City Knights v Featherstone Rovers
3.00pm GMT Saturday September 21, Bootham Crescent
As a result of their away loss to Toulouse, York City will take to the field before the home fans as they tackle a Featherstone Rovers side that has steadily built across the course of the season will be looking to spoil the Knights party at Bootham Crescent on Saturday September 21. The Rovers took care of Leigh Centurions in their Elimination Final last weekend to continue their push for promotion and this matchup against the Knights promises to be electric.
The loser of this fixture will be eliminated while the victor will go on to face the loser of the Semi-Final between Toronto and Toulouse in a Preliminary Final to decide who will take the second spot in the Betfred Championship Playoff Final.
Leigh have already lost their chance at promotion in 2019 as a result of elimination from the Playoffs and one more team will have their season ended this weekend while another side will lock away their place in the Grand Final. It is a huge weekend for Rugby League and one that will be watched by fans all over the world.
