Acquired by the Wolfpack from Widnes Vikings ahead of the 2019 Season, it is impossible to overstate just how important Joe Mellor was during his maiden year with Toronto. Bringing an endless well of organization and leadership on the field, the Englishman rose to every challenge presented in 2019.
One of the best afield in both the Semi-Final and Final, Mellor was at his best during the most important games of the season, something that shows his class and standing in the game. Possessing Super League experience, Mellor’s ability to stay calm in every situation will be even more valuable in 2020.
A dazzling player at his best, Mellor has played more than 200 games across his career and will add to his rich experience when the Wolfpack take the field in 2020. Scoring in both of his first two games with the Wolfpack, Mellor finished the season with eight tries and countless assists to his name. Two of his tries came in what was his finest outing of the year, the critical Semi-Final against Toulouse that booked the Wolfpack into the Playoff Final.
The Final then saw Mellor somehow rise another level, scoring a critical second-half try and gaining a seemingly endless number of metres across the contest. Mellor brought something unique to the Wolfpack in 2019 and he will be looked to in anticipation of a repeat dose in 2020. Already proven at Super League level, the English scrum-half will be looking to improve his game even further in 2020 and as he has shown across a nine-year career, he is more than likely to succeed.
