Joe Mellor was a significant acquisition for the Pack ahead of the 2019 season, bringing a significant level of organisation and leadership to the field of play.
Mellor is originally from Warrington in the North of England but game through the academy ranks at current Super League champions Wigan Warriors, where he made only a handful of Super League appearance for the Cherry and Whites after originally debuting on loan at Harlequins RL (now London Broncos) in 2011.
After moving on loan to Widnes Vikings on two separate occasions, the half back made the move permanent ahead of the 2013 season and established himself as one of the most dangerous running play makers in Super League, amassing over 150 appearances for the club.
Mellor was co-captain of the Vikings from 2016 but opted to run with the Pack following Widnes’ relegation from Super League last year and adds vital depth and quality to Toronto’s half back stocks.
The 28 year old has a deceptive turn of pace, making him a dangerous ball runner and support player, while also possessing a terrific passing and kicking game, with the confidence to steer a side around the field.
Mellor’s signing is part of Toronto’s efforts to bring in more top level experience and competition for places, with the view of raising standards at the club to ensure the Wolfpack taste promotion this season.
