Match Preview: Toronto Wolfpack vs Featherstone Rovers

Toronto Wolfpack return to Lamport Stadium this Saturday, July 13th for a huge clash with Featherstone Rovers that will see the Betfred Championship table take further shape as finals draw nearer.

A win for the Wolfpack would see them become all but untouchable on top of the table come the playoffs, while a victory for the visiting Rovers would solidify their position within the top five and keep their hopes of claiming second spot well and truly alive.

Second and fifth spots in the standings are currently separated by just one game, meaning every game is a must win for those jostling for position at the business end of the table. Toulouse’s loss to Bradford last weekend saw them concede second place to York City Knights and Featherstone could jump the French side into third with an upset victory over Toronto.

The Rovers most recently claimed a tight win over Leigh that moved them into fourth position and set a platform for a finals charge. The victory was on the back of a remarkable performance from scrum-half Dane Chisholm, who ended the match with a try and three conversions that proved the difference in a game that finished with just a four-point margin.

Featherstone will be looking to spoil the Wolfpack’s winning streak of 14 when they take to the field on Saturday, something they have done in the past. The last time the Rovers made the journey to Toronto, they came away with a 12-30 triumph that ended an 18-game run of victories for the transatlantic Wolfpack.

Both squads will be quite different for the 2019 installment of what is becoming an exciting rivalry between the two sides. Brian McDermott has begun to settle on what looks to be his best side in recent weeks. The likes of Liam Kay, Ricky Leutele and Gareth O’Brien in red-hot point scoring form while Anthony Mullally, Gadwin Springer several others have been rock-solid in defense.

The clash is the second time the Wolfpack have held a Rugby Heritage game at Lamport Stadium, with fans encouraged to wear their club or country colors with pride. Featherstone were founded back in 1902 so traveling fans will have plenty of options when it comes to heritage jerseys. Tickets are still available so contact Ticketmaster to secure your seat.
