Toronto Wolfpack To Host Second Annual Heritage Game
Toronto Wolfpack’s clash against Featherstone Rovers this Saturday (July 13) will be a Rugby Heritage Game paying tribute to the fantastic history of the game of Rugby. Fans are encouraged to wear their local club or national colors with pride when they come to Lamport Stadium for the 1pm kick off.
The first annual Rugby Heritage Game was held at the Den in 2018 when the Wolfpack took on Batley Bulldogs, coming away with a strong victory in front of 6,088 fans. This year’s fixture has huge ramifications for the remainder of the season, with Featherstone locked in a fierce battle for a spot in the promotion play offs and Toronto looking to lock away pole position and home advantage for the duration of the play offs.
Featherstone Rovers were founded in 1902, and in fact have origins all the way back to 1889. Fev as they are often known are one of the last ‘small-town teams’, with Featherstone having a population of just 16,000. Their home ground of LD Nutrition Ground, or Post Office Road, opened in 1904 and has played host to the Rovers ever since.
Toronto Wolfpack Vice President, Commercial, Jon Pallett, commented:
“We are so excited for this second installment of the Rugby Heritage Game and can’t wait to see fans of both sides wearing their colors in a nod to the storied history of this great game. Featherstone have a remarkable history that deserves celebration, and we look forward to welcoming them to Toronto for the weekend.
“Junior fans are particularly encouraged to attend and get involved, with plenty of competitions running across the day that fans in their teams’ jerseys will be eligible for. There is no better time to look to the growth of Rugby than when we are championing its history so hopefully we see plenty of fans, both young and old, at Lamport Stadium on Saturday.”
Supporters without Rugby Heritage jerseys are encouraged to simply showcase their favorite colors and jerseys from other sports for what should be another hot summer party at the Den.
